HAPPY GROUNDHOG LIFE ... i mean DAY!!

Happy February, friends! And happy belated Groundhog's Day!

Any Bill Murray fans in the house? I'm a big fan--and not just because I got to hang with him at a cast and crew party once (he's super mellow and down to earth btw -- like in the Netflix documentary Bill Murray Stories.) But he's just my kind of comedian, and the movie Groundhog Day is my fave of all his performances.

Maybe because the story is top notch. Seriously, I rewatch it every year, and every year I find something more to love about it.

Speaking of do-overs, my writing career has been one big fat Groundhog Day. My so called Groundhog Life!! Eventually maybe I'll get it right. If you're a fellow writer spinning their wheels, trust me when I say, you're not alone. One of the best things you can do for yourself is find a tribe of writer friends for encouragement, and there is no place better to find good people than IWSG.

Every first Wednesday of the month writers around the Internet come together to share our insecurities, encourage and uplift.

And right now, the world needs a whole lot of that. I'm not one to get into politics online, and I rarely, if ever, take a side publicly. But the outright hatred and hypocrisy I've seen these past few weeks from people of all backgrounds and beliefs, just makes me want to shrivel up and hide.

Aren't we better than this? Can't we stop and listen to one another and try to understand each others' point of view, even if they conflict? Agree to disagree--that's what adults with an ounce of humility do. We give each other opportunity to learn, and we treat each other with compassion--which sometimes means admitting we're wrong, or that we don't have all the answers. And sometimes it means simply saying, "I hear what you're saying." and shutting the bleep up.

I know this isn't the place for this discussion, but I'm bringing it up because IWSG is a place where you WILL find humble but highly intelligent and charismatic, caring adults. It's the one place I knew I could return to and feel safe, seen, and respected as a writer and a person.

There's some excitement down here in FLA this weekend as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing AT HOME in the superbowl (right here in my back yard!! My town is crazy excited!). Who knew? We already have our first woman (Of Color) VP in the USA. What else will 2021 bring??

How about you? Any firsts to note? How do you deal with all the negativity? Where do you go to get away from the adults acting like children? Where have you made the best writing friends?

Also, if you pitched in the ISWGPit, how did you do? I'd love to feature your success story here if you have one.
